Balance

  • Way of combining elements of art to produce:
    • the look of action
    • cause the viewers eye to travel over the artwork
Rhythm
  • Repetition of the elements, colors, shapes, lines, values, forms, spaces, and textures
Contrast
  • Combining art elements to stress differences between or among them.
    • value contrast
    • color contrast - complimentary colors (side by side)
    • color intensity contrast
    • textural contrast

  • Creates dominance and focus in artwork
Pattern
  • Overall composition or layout of work of art
    • planned or random Repetitions
    • repeated motifs

  • Combining all the art elements to achieve wholeness or total effect in works of art
